AFTER A WORK COPYING RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

A seated male youth with his right arm raised up

32.5 x 22.0 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851512

A photograph of a drawing formerly in the Lanier and Richardson collections. The drawing is one of a number thought to reproduce a preparatory study (probably by Raphael and now lost) for the 'St John the Baptist in the Desert', a painting by the workshop of Raphael after designs by the master (c.1517-18) now in the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence (inv. no.1446). A drawing in the Uffizi, Florence (inv. no.545E) has long been considered the original study by Raphael (see RCIN 851510). Photographs of other existing similar drawings at RCINs 851511, 851513. This photograph was added to the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection in 1992.
