AFTER PIETRO PERUGINO (CITTÀ DELLA PIEVE C.1450-FONTIGNANO 1523)

A man in armour

c.1860-76

Carbon print | 24.8 x 18.8 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851531

A photograph of a drawing by Perugino (c.1490-3) now in the Royal Library, Windsor Castle (RCIN 912801). The drawing is closely related to the 'Archangel Michael', a panel from the so-called 'Certosa Altarpiece', a polyptych by Perugino (c.1499-1500), the lower compartment of which is now in the National Gallery, London (inv. no.NG 288). A photograph of the panel by Perugino at RCIN 851523.c.

This drawing was attributed to Masaccio in the nineteenth century, as Ruland (1876) lists it.
