published 1839Etching and engraving | 21.2 x 33.1 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850116
A print depicting two figures supposed to be portraits of Raphael. At the top, a figure from the so-called Pala Matterozzi executed by Giovanni Santi (Raphael's father) and below, a figure of an angel from the 'Sacra Conversazione', frescoed by Giovanni Santi in the Tiranni chapel (in the church of San Domenico at Cagli). This print is lettered with two titles, and signed by the printmaker with the attribution of the paintings to Giovanni Santi. According to Ruland (1876), this print was published in Passavant's Atlas (pl. III). Trimmed within the platemark. Annotated on the verso.
When this print was published, the Pala Matterozzi was in Berlin, but it was destroyed in the Second World War.
