JACQUES DE BIE (B. 1581)

Portrait of Francis I of France

c.1600-50

Engraving | 21.3 x 14.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852155

A print after a bust-portrait of a man identified on plate as King Francis I (1494-1547). The lettering below image attributes the painting to Raphael and records it as being then in Fontainebleau. Ruland (1876) follows Passavant (1860) and described the portrait as probably after Titian's famous portrait of Francis I now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris.
