A print after a painting now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no.613). Stamped with the publisher's blind stamp at lower centre (Lugt 4211), and numbered at centre below image: 54 (between stars). With publication line. The painting has long been attributed to Raphael, an opinion also shared by Ruland (1876) but no longer accepted by modern scholars. The names of Parmigianino and Correggio have been recently suggested. A photograph of the painting at RCIN 852043.
