AFTER A WORK BY A FOLLOWER OF RAPHAEL (1483-1520)

Portrait of a Man

c.1853-76

Albumen print | 33.0 x 33.2 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851996

A photograph of a painting in the Royal Collection (RCIN 405760) currently attributed to a follower of Raphael. The authorship of the painting and the identity of the sitter are matters of dispute. It has been suggested that the painting may be a self-portrait painted by Raphael around 1505-6 in Urbino. Another photograph of the painting at RCIN 851997.

A photograph of this painting is also included in the "Portraits of Raphael" section of the Raphael Collection (see RCIN 850090).
