JOHANN GEORG SCHREINER (1801-59)

A lithograph after a painting formerly believed to be by Raphael, then housed in the collection of the Duke of Leuchtenberg in St Petersburg. Lettered with former attribution to Raphael and production details. The sitter has been identified as Cardinal Giovanni Ricci (1498-1574).
Several versions of this painting are known, including one in the Galleria Nazionale di Arte Antica-Palazzo Barberini, Rome (inv. no.0863 (F.N. 598)) which comes from the Valenti Gonzaga Collection, and one in the Harvard Art Museums/Fogg Museum (inv. 1934.66). Both are currently attributed to Scipione Pulzone.
