JULES GASPARD GSELL (1814 - 1904)

A self-portrait of Raphael

c.1835-1875

Lithograph | 51.2 x 37.4 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850012

A lithograph reproducing a painting by Raphael (c.1505) now in the Uffizi, Florence (inv. no. 1890). Lettered with the names of the intermediate draughtsman and the printmaker. Lettered with publication details and title.

This painting has been identified as a self-portrait of Raphael, but there is much debate about its authorship. This is partially due to its state of preservation (see Bibliographic References for further discussion).
