AFTER RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

The Trinity with saints

c.1853-76

Albumen print | 52.6 x 41.5 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 853789

A photograph of the fresco The Trinity with Saints, the upper part of which was painted by Raphael in the church of San Severo, Perugia, and is dated to 1505 by a later inscription. Annotated on the verso.

The Trinity with Saints is Raphael's earliest known fresco, but was left unfinished at his death in 1520. The bottom half of the fresco was then completed by Perugino. See RCIN 853796 for a photograph of a preparatory drawing by Raphael, now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, for the fresco. The figure of God the Father at the very top of the fresco is almost entirely missing through damage.
