The head of an angel
c.1830-1856Lithograph | 49.9 x 35.7 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 853911
Ruland (1876) states that this lithograph was made "by Ramboux, after a tracing". Johann Anton Ramboux, a painter and museum curator, made a number trips to Italy during his lifetime; the fresco was detached from its setting in 1830 (see Bibliographic References), after which he would have more plausibly been able to make a tracing.
The Magliana chapel frescoes were commissioned from Raphael by Pope Leo X. They were detached from the chapel in the nineteenth century and fragments of two of them are now in the Louvre, Paris, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Narbonne.
