c.1853-1876Albumen print | 15.2 x 11.5 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850307
A photograph of a painting depicting the Annunciation that Ruland (1876) catalogued as being then in the Ducal Collection, Gotha.
According to Ruland, this is a copy after a lost original by Raphael for the Grassi family in Bologna (c.1510-11). Massari (see Bibliographic References) states that the painting was lost in 1773 and that the known prints depicting the composition are after a lost preparatory drawing. For a print after this painting, see RCIN 850308.
