Leda and the Swan
c.1853-76Albumen print | 17.2 x 13.1 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851706
A photograph of a painting catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the Palazzo Borghese, Rome. The painting appears to be one of the many versions after a now lost picture by Leonardo, the composition of which is known through numerous copies including a drawing by Raphael now in the Royal Library, Windsor Castle (RCIN 912759). Ruland believed the photographed painting to be derived from the drawing by Raphael.
