MARCANTONIO RAIMONDI (C. 1480-1534)
Faun and Child
c.1500-20Engraving | 17.9 x 14.1 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851829
An engraving after a design formerly reputed to be by Raphael. Only state. The engraving is irregularly trimmed along the lower margin. A strip of paper with additions in ink has been added.
It has been suggested that the original composition may have been designed by Peruzzi (Kristeller 1922, p.263) or Raimondi himself, perhaps inspired by some ancient relief (Shoemaker/Broun 1981, no.15).
