A Muse holding a Lyre

c.1853-76

Albumen print | RCIN 851752

A photograph of a drawing now in the Royal Library, Windsor Castle (RCIN 990746r). The drawing is copied after an engraving (RCIN 851751.o) from a series by Marcantonio Raimondi, known as 'Apollo, Minerva, and the Muses'. On the verso of the photographed drawing is an unfinished copy after another engraving of the series (RCIN 851751.c); a photograph of the verso at RCIN 851753. Ruland (1876) catalogued the drawing as a preparatory sketch, probably by B. Peruzzi, for the Muse. For the series of 'Apollo, Minerva, and the Muses', see RCIN 851751.
  • Acquired for the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1853-76)
