In Ruland's Raphael Collection catalogue, the painting was described as being in the possession of Count Luckner, Dresden. The painting is a copy of Raphael’s so-called Esterházy Madonna (1507-08) now in the Szepmüvészeti Múzeum, Budapest (inv. no.71; see RCIN 850819 for a photograph of it).
