A print reproducing a composition generally attributed to Raphael, for a very similar drawing of this subject attributed to the master survives in the Louvre (inv. no.3949); reproduced in reverse. Lettered with image at lower left: R.V.B.
It has been suggested that an original painting by Raphael with this composition was intended, but it may have never been executed or might have got lost.
Showing the full-length seated Virgin holding the Christ Child on her lap with both arms, with the crouched St Elizabeth and the Infant Baptist presenting the Child with a bird on the right; in a landscape with a pyramid in the background.
