The Virgin and Child with St Elizabeth and the Infant Baptist

A photograph of a painting listed by Ruland (1876) as being then in the Royal Gallery in Stockholm, most probably the one currently housed at Drottningholm Palace, Sweden (inv. no.Drh.284). The painting reproduces a composition generally attributed to Raphael, for a related drawing ascribed to the master survives in the Louvre (inv. no.3949). Several prints and paintings of this composition are known. It has been suggested that an original painting by Raphael with this composition was intended, but it may have never been executed or might have got lost.
