A reversed engraving after a painting by Raphael which at the time of the print was in the collection of Lord Robert Spencer, London, to whom the plate is dedicated. Lettered with production details. According to Ruland (1876), the painting was later in the possession of the Marquis of Lansdowne, Bowood and is now in the National Gallery, London (inv. no.NG 6480). The painting is the only surviving scene of the predella of Raphael’s Ansidei Altarpiece (1505), the central panel of which is also in the National Gallery, London (see RCIN 850685 for a photograph of the painting).
