The composition is based on the so-called ‘Madonna della Rosa’, a picture now in the Museo del Prado, Madrid (inv. no.302) generally attributed to Raphael and his workshop (c.1517-18). A photograph of the ‘Madonna della Rosa’ can be found at RCIN 851103.
Showing the seated Virgin supporting the Christ Child with both hands, who stands on one foot on a cushion, with the Infant Baptist standing on the left and presenting the Child with an inscribed scroll and St Joseph coming out of a building holding a torch and the bridle of a donkey in the left background; in a landscape.
