MASTER OF THE DIE (ACTIVE 1530-60)

This engraving appears to be a late state (or an anonymous copy in the same direction) of a plate by the Master of the Die after the Antique (Bartsch XV, p.226, no.74). Not described in Bartsch.
The first state is signed with the engraver's monogram (a die with the letter B) at lower right, without inscriptions; the second state is signed, and lettered with short inscription in Latin and Lafréry's address below image. This state (or copy) bears publisher Thomassin's address and inscription ascribing the composition to Raphael, and is lettered with two lines in Italian along the bottom.
