The Battle with the Cutlass
c.1853-76Albumen print | 19.8 x 30.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852268
A photograph of a drawing now in the British Museum, London (inv. no.1860,0211.106). Ruland (1876) described the drawing as the original design probably by Giulio Romano upon which Marco Dente's engraving of 'The Battle with the Cutlass' was based (B XIV, p.171, no.211). The drawing is now thought to be a copy after the engraving. For a first state impression of the engraving see RCIN 852265, for a second state with Salamanca's address see RCIN 852266.
