1855Albumen print | 21.8 x 34.8 cm (image) | RCIN 2500531
Photograph of Sevastopol taken from the front of Cathcart's Hill. In the foreground there is a small camp to the left and three men standing together to the right. The town and harbour of Sevastopol can just be seen in the distance.
Cathcart's Hill, named after the grave of General Cathcart, was the main cemetery for British soldiers killed during the Crimean War. It was also used as an observation point as from it commanders could view the progress of the Siege of Sevastopol.
