Photograph of Lieutenant-General Jones (1791-1866) and his staff gathered in front of a building. Lieutenant-General Jones is sitting in a chair at the top of the steps, holding a piece of paper in his right hand. A soldier sits on the steps to the left and is looking up at him. Two soldiers stand to the right, one leaning against a wall with his hand on his hip. All are wearing military uniform. The building behind has an open door and window and there is a tree to the right. Lieutenant-General Jones served in the Crimean War, commanding the British troops at the Battle of Bomarsund and the Royal Engineer forces during the Siege of Sevastopol. He later became Governor of the Royal Military College Sandhurst.
