1855-1856

Salted paper print | 21.4 x 28.2 cm (image) (image) | RCIN 2500637

Photograph of a group of nine men gathered outside a small tent. Five of the men are standing, two are sitting on stools and two men are reclining on a tartan rug. The man lying on the rug to the left is raising his left arm to give something to the man standing opposite him. The men are wearing a mix of military uniform and civilian clothes and several are smoking cigars. More tents can be seen behind them. The troops engaged in the Siege of Sevastopol camped in the countryside surrounding the town.
