Photograph of three Croat chiefs gathered in front of a stone wall. They are wearing warm clothes including fur coats and turbans. This photograph, printed by Jabez Hughes in 1883, is a carbon print pasted over the original photograph.

This is one of a series of photographs of soldiers who fought in the Crimean War in an album compiled by Queen Victoria. The album also contains photographs commissioned by The Queen of wounded veterans she met at Buckingham Palace and Chatham Military Hospital.
