Photograph of General Sir Henry William Barnard perched on a stone block facing slightly left, with his right foot resting on a cannonball. He is wearing military uniform and holds his gloves in his left hand. There is a long sword attached to his belt. This photograph, printed by Jabez Hughes in 1883, is a carbon print pasted over the original photograph.

General Barnard served during the Crimean War and later died of cholera on active service in India.
