Photograph of Corporal Pendered seated on an upright box facing partly left.
Corporal Pendered served with the Royal Sappers and Miners during the Crimean War and drowned off the coast of Balaklava in November 1854 when the supply ship HMS Prince was destroyed in a storm. This photograph is one of a series of portraits of Crimean War veterans collected by Queen Victoria shortly after the war.
