Photograph of Colonel Alexander Low (1817-1904) standing beside a horse facing left with his right arm resting on the horse's back. He is wearing a long fur coat and hat and smoking a cigar. A servant, also wearing a fur coat, stands to the left holding the reins. There is a group of tents and a hillside behind.

Colonel Low served with the 4th Light Dragoons during the Crimean War and fought in the Battle of Balaklava, riding in the Charge of the Light Brigade, and the Siege of Sevastopol.
