Photograph of Colonel Adye (1819-1900) and Captain Whitmore. Colonel Adye is mounted on a large horse facing left. Captain Whitmore stands beside him to the left with his right arm resting on the small pony beside him. Both are wearing military uniform and carry swords. There is open land behind them with a tent to the left.
Colonel Adye served during the Crimea War and later became the Governor of Gibraltar, where he became known as a painter.
