1855

Salted paper print | 26.2 x 34.5 cm (image) | RCIN 2500507

Photograph of a cavalry church parade during the Crimean War. The photograph is taken from a high vantage point in a valley and shows tents camped on the hillside and at the base of the hill. In the foreground to the right there are several horses and a soldier stands by a tent to the left. The parade is taking place in the flattest part of the valley, with the soldiers arranged in a square formation. Troops engaged in the Siege of Sevastopol camped in the surrounding countryside.
