Photograph of a full length double portrait of Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine (1843-78), and Prince Louis, later Grand Duke of Hesse (1837-92). Princess Alice is seated, facing towards the camera. She holds her hands together in front of her waist. Prince Louis stands beside her, placing his right hand on the back of her chair and looking down at her. He holds a cane in his left hand.
