Photograph of a full length double portrait of Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine (1843-78), and Prince Louis, later Grand Duke of Hesse (1837-92). Princess Alice stands on the left, facing slightly towards the right. She looks downwards and holds her hands together in front of her. Prince Louis stands on the right, facing left. He turns his head towards the camera. He holds a cane in his left hand.
