Photograph of a full length double portrait of Prince Louis, later Grand Duke of Hesse (1837-92), and Princess Alice, later Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine (1843-78). Princess Alice is seated, facing three-quarters to the left. Prince Louis stands beside her, placing his left hand on her shoulder. He appears to smile.
