Photograph showing landscape scene with low building by bridge over river, house and large tree to right, Coburg in background with spire. Two figures standing on bridge. This idyllic scene is one of the most attractive of Bedford's Coburg views, commissioned by the Queen in 1857 as a birthday present for Prince Albert, but it is less romantic than it appears. The wooden building (beyond the bridge) belonged to a timber yard, and on the right is the office of the municipal gas works, built in 1854.
