Following Albert’s premature death, Victoria commissioned the creation of photographs and decorative objects that memorialised her beloved husband

    Unveiling of the statue to the Prince Consort, Balmoral estate

    Photograph of the unveiling of the statue of Prince Consort's statue on the Balmoral estate by Queen Victoria who stands with a family group to the left of the statue, all holding umbrellas. A large assembly of people under umbrellas stand on the left.  

    The statue commemorating the Prince Consort, who is portrayed with a dog and holding a gun, was unveiled on the 15th October 1867 by Queen Victoria and was designed by the sculptor William Theed (1804-91).
