The Cenotaph of Albert, Prince Consort: Albert Memorial Chapel, Windsor

1874

Woodbury type | 16.6 x 21.0 cm (image) | RCIN 2101208

Photograph of the north side of the cenotaph of Albert, Prince Consort, formed of white marble with four kneeling Angels supporting the corners.

The photograph is accompanied by a caption: 'THE CENOTAPH.; NORTH SIDE.; THIS magnificent Cenotaph is formed of white marble, with a base and cornice of the beautiful black and white marble of the Pyrenees, called "Grande Antique." Four kneeling angels support the corners and eight niches contain the exquisite figures of which photographs will be found on Plates VII and IX. The recumbent statue of the Prince Consort represented him as completely armed, sheathing, with dying hand, the Christian warrior's sword. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course." At the feet of the Prince lies his favourite hound, Eos.'
