Technological improvements enabled Prince Albert to collect photographs of places that were significant to him

ATTRIBUTED TO FREDERICK HOLLAND MARES

The Four Courts, Dublin

c.1880 after an original of c.1860

Carbon print | 7.6 x 7.4 cm (image) | RCIN 2320074

Photograph of a view of The Four Courts, Dublin. The River Liffey is located in the foreground of the photograph.

A carbon copy is adhered on top of the original albumen print. Carbon prints are more stable compared to albumen prints, the latter prone to fading. Carbon copies were therefore created for posterity.
