c. 1861Albumen print | 7.8 x 7.2 cm (image) | RCIN 2320242
Photograph of the interior of Peterborough Cathedral taken from the south aisle of the choir, facing east with a stained glass window in the background. An open metal gate stands in the middle ground.
The south aisle in Peterborough Cathedral, like the north, was once part of the monastery cloister. A contemporary of Durham cathedral, Peterborough Cathedral was constructed between 1118 and 1237. It is typical of the Romanesque and Early English Gothic style of ecclesiastical architecture.
