Landscape, Nature and Architecture
Technological improvements enabled Prince Albert to collect photographs of places that were significant to him
'Near the Meeting of the Waters, Killarney'
c.1880 after an original of c.1860Carbon print | 7.7 x 7.3 cm (image) | RCIN 2320110
Photograph of a view of a lake surrounded by trees. At the far end of the lake is a long rowing boat. Two men are seated in the boat. There are water plants, largely obscured, in the foreground. Photograph taken near the Meeting of the Waters, Killarney.
A carbon copy is adhered on top of the original albumen print. Carbon prints are more stable compared to albumen prints, the latter prone to fading. Carbon copies were therefore created for posterity.
