Technological improvements enabled Prince Albert to collect photographs of places that were significant to him

ATTRIBUTED TO FREDERICK HOLLAND MARES

Museum Building, Trinity College, Dublin

c.1880 after an original of c.1860

Carbon print | 7.3 x 7.1 cm (image) | RCIN 2320091

Photograph of an exterior view of the Museum Building, Trinity College, Dublin. There is a chain and pillar fence and lawned area in the foreground.

A carbon copy is adhered on top of the original albumen print. Carbon prints are more stable compared to albumen prints, the latter prone to fading. Carbon copies were therefore created for posterity.
