The nave in Durham cathedral was completed in 1135 and features one of the earliest examples of pointed arched roofs in the world. This permitted a higher roof space of 73 feet and more width measuring 81 feet. By placing the two figures in the foreground, Wilson helps to convey a sense of the space and majesty that this interior view of the cathedral provided.
