Photograph of Dumbarton Castle nestled within a large outcrop of rock known as Dumbarton rock. In the right foreground stands a man wearing a bowler hat and with his back to the camera, looking towards the castle.

Dumbarton rock has been the location for defensive buildings since the Iron Age. The rock itself stands at approximately 70 metres high.
