Braemar Castle was originally built in 1628 by the Earls of Mar in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Following the 1715 Jabobite Rebellion and the confiscation of the Earl's lands for his part in the uprising, the castle was sold to the Farquharson family. The castle was used as a military garrison from the mid 1700's until the 1830's when it was again owned by the Farquharson Family. The castle is leased to the local community and is open to the public.
