Photograph of the painting 'The Novice' by Alfred Elmore (1815-81). The painting depicts a novice nun seated on the side of a bed. She holds rosary beads in her hands and gazes at a window, on the far left. Two nuns can be seen through a doorway to the adjoining room.
At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of William Bashall. The painting is now held by the Bury Art Museum, outside of Manchester.
