Photograph of the painting 'A Letter from the Colonies' by Thomas Webster (1800-86). The painting depicts a man and two women positioned around a table. The man holds up a letter. The group appear anxious. In the middle ground, a man leans through a window, holding out his left hand and holding a small number of letters in his right. An identification number can be seen in the lower left corner.
At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of James Eden. The painting is now held by the Tate, London.
