'The Andalusia letter writer'; The Letter-Writer of Seville

Photograph of the painting 'The Letter-Writer of Seville' by John Phillip (1817-67). A man sits at a table, positioned outside on a street corner, his back facing the viewer. He cups his left ear with his left hand to listen to a woman seated beside him, on the left. The man is shown dictating a letter. On the right, a woman and child stand, waiting. The woman holds a letter and a child.
Queen Victoria (1819-1901) lent this painting to the 1857 Manchester Art Treasures Exhibition. The painting remains in the Royal Collection (RCIN 401188).
