Photograph of a painting of a half length portrait of Sir Isaac Newton (1643-1727). He faces a quarter to the left and turns his head slightly towards the right. He looks to the right, away from the viewer.

At the time of the photograph, the painting was attributed to James Thornhill (1675-1734). The painting is now attributed to Sir Godfrey Kneller (1646-1723). The work was lent to the 1857 Manchester Exhibition by the then Earl of Portsmouth, Isaac Newton Wallop (1825-91) and remains in the current Earl's collection.
