CALDESI & MONTECCHI (ACTIVE 1857-67)

'Queen Mariana of Austria'

1857

Albumen print | 18.6 x 15.3 cm (image) | RCIN 2081423

Photograph of a painting of a half length portrait of Queen Mariana of Austria (1634-96). The sitter faces slightly to the left and gazes to the front. Part of an inventory number can be seen in the lower left corner.

At the time of the photograph, the painting was attributed to Diego Velázquez (1599–1660). The painting is more likely a copy of a portrait of Mariana by Velázquez that is in the collection of the Museo del Prado.
