'Henry VIII'

1857

Albumen print | 21.9 x 16.0 cm (image) | RCIN 2081359

Photograph of a painting of a three-quarter length portrait of Henry VIII (1491-1547). Henry VIII stands, facing towards the viewer. He holds a stick in his left hand and gloves in his right. The painting is photographed in its frame.

At the time of the photograph, the work was in the collection of George Guy Greville, 4th Earl of Warwick (1818-93) and was attributed to Hans Holbein the Younger (c.1497-1543). It is now believed the work was produced by a contemporary of Holbein.
