Photograph of a painting of "Dormition of the Virgin," by Fra Angelico (c.1395-1455). The painting depicts the body of the Virgin Mary being lowered into a casket. A group of saints stand around the casket. In the background there appears to be a depiction of heaven and Christ.
At the time of the photograph, the painting was in the collection of William Fuller Maitland (1813-76). The painting, once part of a large altarpiece, is now in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia.
